Want
to be a Puppy Cam Fan?
| Puppy Cam, 2004
August 24 - Well, it's been awhile...this place has been busy, busy, busy, but this appears to be the last week for Puppy Cam. Five still home as of this evening, but by Saturday they will all be in their new homes. (Well, all but Storm, who will be sight-seeing in St. Louis on the way home :). We want to thank all the loving families who opened their doors to some new family members, and we also feel fortunate to now have new friends in many places. More later.
Friday - Well looks like I got through the day without any bad lu....................................................... ................................................................................................................................................................. ..........................................................................................................................(one moment please)................................................. Sunday - (coughoneweeklatercough) Well, this place has been rockin! People from all over the country flying and driving in for the weekend to love on puppies ;)...everywhere I went in my house there were either piles of puppies or piles of people with piles of puppies on top of their laps...I don't even wanna talk about how tough it was to take a bath...I mean without company, of course! (rolls eyes). Pups are in "paper shredding" mode, and if you have been watching PC you are seeing it...it wears me out just watching Densi clean up all that paper...whew! This has been an insightful weekend...found out John (not his real name) will NOT eat browned okra...found out puppies are not above whizzing on you without a BIT of warning...several people probably found out the best futon mattress money can buy is probably not as comfy as a weekend special mattress from Bubba's Bed Barn and BBQ...hey I offered to get rooms for everyone, but noooooooooooo...had to be one big happy family. We survived, barely...but I came home Friday evening with a dozen Arizona Tea bottles (plum ginseng, yummers), and I think I had maybe two the whole weekend...that woman from Indianapolis drinks like a fish! :) Hi Inga! (not her real name). Saturday - Wow, cool, rainy day, very pleasant. The pups are trying to bust out of Puppy Jail by climbing the fence...I hated to do it, but Taz took a direct hit in the licker from the squirt bottle...she thought she was being murdered...you never heard such pitiful yipping and carrying on...after another squirt or two she cracked and retreated in amongst her siblings and went to sleep in about 30 seconds...and they say puppies can't be trained :). Densi played in the musical Jekyll & Hyde all week, and tonight was the last night...I went...enjoyed it immensely! Hated to see Lucy pass on, though...she was a cutie :). As she was packing to leave, belting out a great song, I kept muttering "Run, woman! Run...get outa there! DOH!.....eyoooooooooooooooo!!!!" (shakes head...that story never ends well for some reason.). Bad news...our newspaper supply keeps dwindling faster and faster...but don't worry (evil smile)...if I were you I'd be stocking up on newspaper as we speak...er...read...oh whatever...start a stack, trust me. Monday-Friday - (blank look on face) Sunday - Puppies are eating mostly solid food now...ok, it's actually pretty mushy but still...John and Jane (not their real names) left today. They came in from Patagonia (not their real home) to hang with the puppies in preparation for choosing one. John helped me put up Puppy Jail...in case you are wondering about the definition of "Puppy Jail", it is really very simple...puppies doing hard time...for instance, Harley, here, did a weewee behind Ricky Chuck's foot when Ricky Chuck wasn't looking, and when Ricky Chuck stepped back...anyway, Harley is in Puppy Jail. Saturday - went and saw I, Robot...highly entertaining!!! Oh yeah, the puppies...they are snarfing food destroying newspaper and starting to trot and doggie wrestle, and gnaw on toes....did I mention their teeth have come in??? (holds up a mangled pinkie toe to the camera). Late Friday night - Puppy Jail is up and running! I discovered belatedly that my network cable was not plugged in so you didn't get to see me doing my Tim Allen imitation...oh well, you also didn't get to see the thin spot in my head :). Anyway, more territory for the puppies now, and I will try to get Pan/Tilt/Zoom going this weekend sometime. Friday night - Puppy Jail is going up, and I'll try to keep Puppy Cam going, so things may look a little weird...no snide remarks! Wed-Thur-Fri - an so on. Tuesday - (the mellow sound of cauliflower and corn chips being consumed is heard) Monday - Puppy teeth are coming in, and Tosca is getting even less patient about handing out meals to a pack of piranhas :). Puppy Jail will probably begin construction tomorrow evening. Sunday - Yawwwwwwwwwn..thud BUST OUT! We always watch to see which puppy busts out of jail first, and this time it was SAM! We had them in a big plastic container while changing linens, the same height as the pen walls, and I looked down just as Sam was flipping over the top and grabbed him in mid-air...what a stud!! He gets extra food today :). Ok, he may have been standing on Anna's head, but still... Saturday - Visits by prospective puppy buyers today, so if you see folk in and out of puppy Cam, this is what is going on. Thursday/Friday - The puppies are sucking down the supplement like crazy. There is the occasional tongue vapor lock to the top of the mouth, but otherwise lots of round bellies and major sleep action :). We will begin the weaning formula soon. Tosca's poor belly is scratched and red, even though Densi is trimming the puppy claws...it's a wonder she will even stay in the pen for a couple of minutes with twelve little whirling dervishes attacking for food...Tosca, not Densi. We discovered Diva was aptly named when she got stuck behind a white bar and couldn't get out...she gave up and just sat and howled like a lonely wolf ;)...ok, a wolf howl that sounds like something from Alvin and the Chipmunks, but still.... Wednesday night - ....onds, and then it ate some vague TCP/IP file deep in the arcane corners of Windows land and my internet access went bye bye!. Just got it fixed this evening...whew. Well, at least Puppy Cam was up most of the time. The puppies have their heads up now and are actually watching things happen...they are air scenting Momma when she shows up and a couple are actually looking up going "That's right, a little closer, clooooserrrrr....". Their bodily functions are also starting to kick in nicely...I stepped into the pen in my sock feet and...oh never mind, it wasn't that interesting. Have several more gushers who are angling for a Puppy Cam Fan spot, stay tuned (smiles evil...uh...angelically). Tuesday - .......................................................... Monday night - I installed some experimental software from work and my computer worked perfectly for about ten sec.................................. Sunday - Oh hooooo we suddenly have people gushing about Puppy Cam...let me seeee, who should go first...(evil laughing fills the sunroom) Saturday morning - After the paramedics left, things got back to normal...they admonished me to quit sleeping on the futon since it punished my back so much...oh well (bambi eyes at Densi) Friday night - Woohoooo!! Vacation for a week....er...hold on...(voice off screen reminds Rick he is now on duty for sleeping in the sunroom on the futon by the puppies)....well shoot. I have no more information. Friday - So I'm just now holding some pups up to the camera and I hold Sam up to my face and think "He's looking back at me...HE'S LOOKING BACK AT ME???" . Puppy eyes are starting to open! Make that Sam AND Harley! Thursday - Things are proceeding smoothly for the most part. It's a sort of musical chairs, rotating the pups around so they all get a square meal :). Too many mouths, not enough...er...plates. It has been raining here pretty regularly, though we haven't had it as badly as Arlington, TX., where I understand they are actually using real trees at Six Flags in the log flume ride! I have next week off work so we'll provide a lot more puppy visual aids, starting this weekend. Wednesday - Uh...I don't remember Wednesday Tuesday - Things are pretty normal here...trying to rotate the pups who don't put on as much weight as we like each day so they can get some grub...when those Hawgs get in there the little ones go rolling. Puppy eyes start opening from about 8 days on, so the next several days the picture will be either pretty dark or in Nightshot mode since the drapes will be drawn and the lights will be low...after all the eyes are open and they've had a few days to mature we will bring more light into the sunroom. THEN the fun starts (rolls eyes). I'll probably activate Tracker Cam then, so you can follow the pups around in the pen. Not everyone will get a link to PuppyTracker Cam since a bunch of people trying to move the cam at the same time will make it go ape, but hopefully we can work out something. In case you have been looking at the Puppy Slideshow above and noticed a change, NO, Turbo did NOT have a sex change operation (rolls eyes at all the comedians in Puppy Cam land)...there was a paperwork snafu, and the correct name is Diva, and she is a pretty female. Anyone can make a mistake! To compensate for the reduction in visual acuity, I will start posting more pictures and video of the pups for your viewing pleasure...if you want to see ME in some of these venues just ask and I shall be happy to oblige. Monday - I awakened to the sound of my son's voice screaming "Annie! Annie!" While I was trying to get out of the bed much faster than was good for me, he continued..."Annie is walking! She's walking already!" Lying on the carpet next to the bed I thought "That's nice...". Sunday - eat, sleep, crawl around, eat, sleep, crawl around...and the puppies did pretty much the same. Saturday afternoon - Vet said all puppies were looking great, and strong! Saturday morning - Sorry I haven't been here more often...work has been crazy. This morning we go to the vet for dew claws and their first checkup. We weigh the pups every night and they are all starting to put weight back on. We are trying to name the rest of them, and are stuck about number 12...she spent so much longer on her journey and yet is now almost the biggest of the bunch we want to give her a special name while she is here...send in your suggestions! Thursday night - Things are quiet...well, except for the midget in the red collar...what a whiner when it can't get enough food!! I've barely had enough time to catch up on Stephen King's Book VI of the The Dark Tower series, "Song of Susannah". My right foot has gone to sleep, too...oh, we have a few names picked out...Harley, Xena, Ally, possibly Roland :)...more later Thursday morning - Things seem to be going fine...getting them all a full meal will be a trick for awhile. I did discover after I got to work that Red Bull for breakfast and playing Led Zepplin for five miles is no substitute for sleep...I hope Densi won't yell at me for taking the last Red Bull (worried look). Wednesday (I think) 9:15 PM - All quiet...Tosca is eating and drinking and I'm rotating the pups in six at a time for meals. Karen from next door (Sage's owner) came over and took a turn in the pen. No further contractions so I'm hoping there are no more pups in there...that would be stretching our good fortune! You might notice I am wearing a conservative RED t shirt tonight...cough. I haven't heard from any fashion critics this evening so guess I chose wisely (snickering), on the other hand having the camera on infrared might tend to wash out the color...oh well. NUMBER 12!! - 6 PM...Rick is standing there watching Tosca have some contractions, thinking it was just the normal after-birth ones... he idly notices what he thinks is a blood clot showing...no big deal, though not especially appealing...suddenly his keen eyesight makes him think "ya know, that looks like a FOOT! DENSIIIIIII!!!". Another breech! To make a long story short, Densi grabbed the foot while I stood Tosca up and we finally got the female out of there...and she weighs 15.8 ounces!...perfect condition, and a climber already! Ok, I've had enough excitement...now Densi is going to a gig and I'm thinking "what other surprises do you have for me tonight, dog???" :) WEDNESDAY MORNING 11 AM. Final count - ELEVEN puppies... 4 males, 7 females, all puppies doing fine. The white tubes in the whelping box keep the momma dog from leaning up against the wall and mashing puppies who have crawled around behind her. *****************************************************************************************
